Fineblanking

Fineblanking is a specialized precision stamping, metal forming process that combines cold extrusion and stamping technologies. The Fineblanking technology was invented by Mr. Schiess of Germany in 1923.

Using the Fineblanking process, precise finished components can be produced with inner and outer forms that are cleanly sheared over the total material thickness, while achieving superior overall flatness. This process eliminates the need for costly secondary operations such as shaving, milling, reaming, broaching and grinding.

To manufacture parts in fineblanking quality, the following conditions have to be met :
  • Fineblanking press
  • Fineblanking tool
  • Malleable material
Working :

  • Fineblanking requires the use of three very high-pressure pads in a special press. These pads hold the metal flat during the cutting process and keep the metal from plastically deforming during punch entry.
  •
  • Most fineblanking operations incorporate a V-ring into one of the high-pressure pads. Before the punch contacts the part, the ring impales the metal surrounds the perimeter of the part, and traps the metal form moving outward while pushing it inward toward the punch. This reduces rollover at the cut edge.
  •
  • Fineblanking operations usually require clearances of less than 0.0005 inch per side. When this small clearance are combined with high pressure it results in a fully sheared part edge.
  •
  • Fineblanking is much like a cold extruding process. The part is pushed or extruded out of the strip while it is held very tightly between the high-pressure holding plates and pads. The tight hold of the high-pressure plates prevents the metal from bulging or plastically deforming during the extrusion process.

Advantages :

  • By applying the Fineblanking process, the components are with good shape, smooth surface and precise size, they can be ready for assembly without any further secondary operations. The productivity is increased, the production cycle time and the component cost are significantly reduced.

Application :

  • The Fine-Blanking has been used in Automotive industry such as door locks, gear boxes, reclining seat adjusters, etc. Furthermore, the Fine-Blanking can also be applied to Electronic and Electrical Industry.
