Robotics : It is a general purpose, programmable machine which possesses human like characteristics. Robots are used to ease production operation requiring intricate processes where human effort is difficult to apply.

Robot Control : An industrial robot shares many attributes with a computer numerical control (CNC) machine tool. The technology which is used to oprate CNC machine tool is also used to actuate the robot's mechanical arm.

Cartesian Coordinate Robots : These are consisting of three orthogonal linear sliding axes, the manipulator hardware and the interpolator.

Spherical Coordinate Robots : The kinematic configuration of spherical coordinate robot arms is similar to the turret of a tank. These arms have a rotary base, an elevated pivot and a telescopic arm which moves in and out. The disadvantage of spherical robots is that there are two axes with low resolution which varies with arm length.
