Mechanical Definitions
|
Aerograph : A self recording instrument carried aloft
to obtain meteorological data. |
Aftercondenser : A condenser in the second stage of a
two stage ejector which can be used in refrigeration system,
steam power plants, and air conditioning system. |
Agitator : A device for keeping liquids and solids in liquids in motion by mixing, stirring, or shaking.
|
Air cycle : A refrigeration cycle characterized as working
fluid, air, remaining as a gas throughout the cycle rather than
being condensed to a liquid. This can be used in airplane air
conditioning. |
Air drill : A drill used to power compressed air. |
Airflow pipe : A tube through which air is conveyed from one location to another.
|
Air-handling unit : A packaged assembly of air conditioning
components which provides for the treatment of air before it
is distributed. |
Air-injection system : A device that used for compressed
air which can inject the fuel into the cylinder of an internal
combustion engine. |
Air motor : A device in which the pressure of confined
air causes the movement of a piston or the rotation of a rotor.
|
Air valve : A valve in which air is out of or into a
liquid carrying pipe when the internal pressure drops below
atmospheric. |
Air vessel : An enclosed volume of air which uses the compressibility of air to minimize water hammer. An enclosed chamber using the compressibility of air to promote a more uniform flow of water in a piping system.
|
Air washer : A device for cooling and cleaning air in which the entering warm, moist air is cooled below its dew point by refrigerated water so that although the air leaves close to saturation with water, it has less moisture per unit volume than when it entered. Apparatus to wash particulates and soluble impurities from air by passing the airstream through a liquid bath or spray.
