Mechanical Definitions |
Gage Length : The original length of the portion of a
specimen which is measured for strain, length changes and other
characteristics. |
Gang Drill : A drilling machine having a number of drills
operated together in the same machine. It is used in rock drilling.
|
Gang Saw : It is a steel saw in which thin, parallel
saws are arranged to operate simultaneously in cutting logs.
It is used in cutting and sizing granite and marble blocks.
|
Gas Compressor : It is a machine which increases the
pressure of a gas by reducing its volume or vapor by increasing
the gas density and delivering the fluid against the connected
system resistance. |
Gas Heater : It supplies heat by forced convection and
uses gas as a heat source. It is used to heat a room or outdoor
area. |
Gasoline pump : It pumps and measures the fuel (e.g.
petrol, diesel, or other type of fuel) supplied to a vehicle,
at a filling station. |
Gas Thermometer : It measures temperature by the variation
in pressure or volume of a gas. It is used with helium down
to about 1 K. |
Gates Crusher : It is a gyratory crusher having a cone
or mantle that is moved eccentrically by the lower bearing sleeve.
|
G Clamps : It is a fastening device to hold objects tightly
in some mechanical operations. It is also called C Clamp because
of its 'C' shaped frame.
|
Gear : It is a mechanism which performs a specific function
in a machine. It is a component within a transmission device
that transmits rotational force to another gear or device in
a vehicle or machine. |
Gear Case : It is an enclosure which is filled with lubricating
fluid in which gears operate. |
Gear Down : This is the process of arranging gears so
the driven part rotates at a slower speed than driving part. |
